Artist's Comments

Standing just "inside" what used to be an amazing plantation home in MS... This one is called the "Windsor Ruins" [link] and was once reported as the largest house in the Mississippi area... Now, naturally, all that remains are many of the stone covered brick columns that made up its perimeter.

Since tomorrow is my birthday and I'm going to be traveling (naturally, seems to be my habit lately =P) my parents asked if I wanted to go out for dinner tonight instead to celebrate. But I suggested instead that I would really enjoy if they would drive me to the ruins, which are only a little more than an hour away from my house... I'd never been, but had seen some pictures and thought it would be fun!!

So we went this afternoon, to catch sunset-ish time there. I'm glad I got there early, with all the big trees surrounding the place, actual sunset would have been a bit of a bust.. But at the time we arrived, the sun was just creeping into the lowest point that would still allow direct light on the ruins, and I found it very pretty how it was coming through the columns... I was hoping for a little more glare and lens flare, but it's there a little bit. =) On the plus side of it being so bright though, I was able to really get some cool motion shots with my skirt, I have several more I plan to edit =D Downside of it being so bright though, I had to use manual focus, which I've learned kinda sucks with self-portraits like this... but oh well...

The silhouette effect is interesting in this. Did you get any shots where the silhouette effect is more prominent?

hehe I do the comments and explanations as much for myself as anyone else, reading them is totally optional :giggle: and usually they are only remotely related to the photo hehe...
